Direct messages & member-to-member chat

The problem: Everything is public. If you meet someone interesting in a thread, your only option is to take the conversation to email or LinkedIn — and the community loses that connection.

What we want: 1:1 direct messages first, optionally small group chats later. Nothing fancy — text, links, maybe images.

Why it matters: DMs are where intros, hires, and deals actually happen. Skool and Heartbeat win daily-use habit largely because members talk to each other privately, not just in feeds.

Real example: two founders in our network discovered they share the same target customer — they coordinated a joint pilot entirely over WhatsApp because there was no way to talk privately here. That whole relationship is now invisible to the community.

Not getting this. If we do person to person messaging they would not be able to see it here either right? Anyway. I hear you guys. Will implement person to person chat. Its not that difficult.

One ask: make DMs respect privacy settings — members should be able to limit who can message them (everyone / people in shared spaces / nobody). Otherwise this becomes a cold-pitch channel fast.

Yeah this is a good point. Will do something in the profile where the user can have settings like Who can send me a message ranging from no one, everyone and only people in my community
