Mentality is a huge part of reaching your goals

Today I was on the treadmill, and if I’m honest, I hate running. But I know it’s something I need to do to stay fit for football.

As I started getting tired, I set myself little mental targets. I’d tell myself I couldn’t check the time until the song ended, or if I looked up and saw 22:49, I wouldn’t let myself stop until 25:00 because it felt like a better number.

It made me realise how much of it is a mental battle. I still had more in me, I just needed something to keep my mind focused instead of thinking about stopping.

Treadmill running is mostly mental. You nailed it with those little targets. Keeps the brain busy so your body can keep going. That β€œI still had more in me” realisation is gold. Another one for me is to write down in a spreadsheet on your phone. How far and long you managed to run. Competing against yourself. Keep using those tricks, they transfer straight to the pitch. Respect. πŸ’ͺ
